Your photos do not include a picture of a Macwester 28 aft cockpit version – I have a 1968 model – would you like a picture?

I just caught up with this forum again; a while back I inquired here about the 28′ Wight; about all we seemed to know on the site here came from the short note about her on the Macwester Owners Association site.

I’ve been looking for years for one of these first Wights: to buy one- or even just to see one. Her aft cabin, shallow draft and stout build would be perfect for my sailing area [coast of SE Alaska]; the 31′ Wight being more boat than i want at my age.

I’d very much appreciate being able to ask some questions about her performance when weather turns nasty. Would it be possible to send an email to my own email address? Or for me to contact you outside the forum [don’t want to bore the other participants].

- First Wight: Apologies, as I wrote in reply to your earlier comment here …I was wrong. The Macwester 28 I mentioned isn’t a Wight, as you can see pictured above [see Raniki]. As I suggested in my reply, the Macwester Owners Association might be able to help you with this, as they have extensive ‘offline’ documentation.
  
  Unfortunately, at this moment in time I have no further info to offer you. Sorry. If I come across a 28 Wight, I’ll let you know.

- Hi, I own a MacWester Wight Mk 1. Bought it cheaply about 18 months ago as it needed a lot of work. Took her out last weekend for the first time and it’s really one helluva boat! Feel free to ask me any questions. I will post pics here in due course. There are very few of this model around, to my knowledge, as I have been looking for info on ANY others and can’t find any. I am in North Devon, UK. If you’re ever in the area, it would be my great pleasure to show you ZENQUEST. cheers, Dave

    Thank you for posting about about your 28′ Wight! What a surprise. With guidance from the founder of this site,I’ve been searching for an example of the 28′ Macwester Wight for years. Yours is the first to verfiably turn up.
    
    I suppose my first question must be to ask about her ability to tack with the shallow [2’4″?] draft. I have a dozen other questions for you, if I may, as perhaps other members do as well, but perhaps at this point I’d best not hijack the thread.
    
    Thanks indeed for your offer to view the boat; I’d be there tomorrow if I were in Britain. Unfortunately, I’m on the west coast of the states. But am most eager to see the pictures, when you have a moment to post. Thanks again for this exciting, and surprising, news. dig the site. I have a macwester 28 and just realized it’s an Atlanta 8.5. I always looked up the atlanta 28 and found limited info.

- Hi again, I have emailed document about the boat as well as some photos to Macwester Photos. I have also included some quotes from emails from Stuart Roy, son of CSJ Roy. I too am American but have never been to Alaska where I can easily imagine the sailing to be very interesting and highly varied.

My dad recently passed away and We have one which had been laid up for 15 years? Haven’t looked at it recently but when we last looked the woodwork needs doing, structurally looks sound . Mast etc intact and needs a new engine! Location west Wales

- Sorry Jon, Can’t you help you out with this request. I have Macwester Wight (prototype!), live in Devon (UK) but visit Calif every year to see my mother.
  
  Good luck on your quest. The Macwester Wight is not a fast boat but it’s very safe and easy to sail single handed. Tides here are 2nd highest in the world, so quite challenging at times.
