Port Edgar dash

Macwester Malin at Port Edgar

As we had a family birthday in early August, we decided to nip over to Port Edgar and have an easy-going boat party. The weather was much better than forecast, although the East Coast haar took the edge off the sunshine as the day meandered on. Good food, good company, and no temper tantrums. In fact the kids had a great time blowing up balloons, then setting them free without tying knots in them.

Yacht Rena on the River Forth

Later, we spotted the 145ft motor yacht ‘Rena‘ as she motored back out to sea. Not sure where she’d been, but we surmised that it might have been to Blackness Castle or Culross Palace, both further up river. Interestingly not only Rena, but also one of her two tenders (the one off the stern, not the one on her rear deck) showed up on AIS.

On the Sunday morning we woke to find a 2007 ‘Outbound 46’ named ‘Tide Head’ from Corpus Christi in the US to our starboard. They had arrived the night before from Oban, but got stuck on the entrance to the marina with their 2m draft. First time we’ve had the stars n stripes flying beside us. Speaking of flags, the owner was a Dutch American and they were heading for Amsterdam; we reckoned that they might have chosen to berth alongside us as we were flying our Macwester Malin’s Dutch flag. If that’s the case, I guess that leaves us contemplating either Rosetta Stone or a Red Ensign. Decisions, decisions.
